Helping launch this year’s Contemporary Jazz series from the Nashville Jazz Workshop, drummer Marcus Finnie (who has performed with everyone from Lady Antebellum to Donna Summer) and his band received a glowing review from ArtsNash, which remarked on the set’s “often impressive displays of individual talent and group cohesion.” “Finnie also avoids gimmicks and repetition as a soloist, something that’s often a problem with drummers,” continued Ron Wynn in the review. “Sometimes he’d demonstrate his speed, other time his mastery of the full kit and cymbals.” Friday, July 5, Finnie returns to the live arena with a show at Nine48jazz, armed with a fresh ensemble featuring veteran players Rod McGaha (trumpet), Antone Nesbitt (bass), James DaSilva (guitar), and Walt Scott (keys).

Also performing is saxophonist Geoff Pfeiffer (who himself has a broad musical resume which includes work on Justin Townes Earle’s 2012 studio album, Nothing’s Gonna Change The Way You Feel About Me Now), who will be backed by James DaSilva (guitar), Jerry Navarro (bass), and Robert Harsen (drums).

The show starts at 7:00pm, the event is BYOB, and tickets are $8 at the door.

Nine48Jazz (Waterfront) is located at 2212 Rosa L Parks, Blvd, Nashville, TN 37228.
