2017 Fall / Winter Sampler

The Nashville Fringe Festival is proud to present our fourteenth seasonal sampler, featuring ten tracks showcasing an eclectic range of the city’s artists. Preview the album below, or download the entire sampler by subscribing to the Nashville Fringe Festival’s newsletter.

1) Dynamo “Thankful”

“Thankful” is from Dynamo’s 2016 album Celina, which was recorded in front of a live studio audience. The album is comprised of eight tracks completely free of overdubs.

2) Eric Brace “Petitle Fleur”

“Petite Fleur,” by Sidney Bechet & Fernand Bonifay, is from Eric Brace’s 2017 album Cartes Postales, released via Red Beet Records. (Credits – Eric Brace: vocals; Rory Hoffman: guitar, accordion, clarinet; Mark Fain: bass; Lynn Williams: drums.)

3) Charles Butler “No One Knows My Plan”

“No One Knows My Plan,” written by They Might Be Giants, was released on Charles Butler’s 2015 Letterbox – They Might Be Giants Reimagined LP. (Credits – Justin Amaral: drums, percussion; David Spicher: bass; Derek Pell: fiddle; Marc Lacuesta: melodica; Charles Butler: banjo. Engineered and mixed by Marc Lacuesta.)

4) Jeff Blaney “Roll and Tumble”

“Roll and Tumble” is from Jeff Blaney’s 2017 Tennessee EP. (Credits: Jeff Blaney: guitar, vocals; Charlie Pate: upright bass, vocals; Charles Butler: banjo, dobro; Mick Chegwidden: mandolin.)

5) Charlie Rauh “Augustine”

“Augustine” is from Charlie Rauh’s Viriditas LP, released in 2017 via Destiny Records.

6) Tony Gerber “Child of Wonder”

“Child of Wonder” appears on Tony Gerber’s Best Of Retrospective 1986​-​2000.

7) Rae Hering “How the Wind Blows” (live at Pentavarit)

“How the Wind Blows” was written by Rae Hering and Jonathan Morse, and recorded live at Pentavarit Studios. (Credits – Rae Hering: vocals, keyboard; Jonathan Morse: bass; Keith McGonigle: drums; Laura Vance: background vocals. Produced by Bobby Holland and Rae Hering; Engineered and Mixed by Bobby Holland; Mastered by Frank Gagliardi.)

8) Bentley Caldwell “Awkward Turtle”

“Awkward Turtle” is from Bentley Caldwell’s 2014 A Place to Be EP.

9) Bruce Ervin “Will You Light My Fire?”

Bruce Ervin’s “Will You Light My Fire?” is from the 2017 film, Black Holler.

10) Mutual Groove “Here Comes The Bear”

“Changing Times” is from Joshua’s 2013 Joshua EP. “Shake That Thing” is from Jeff Blaney’s 2012 Labor of Love EP. “Rap is Rulin'” is by E.T. and AL-D (feat. Virghost), from the duo’s 2015 album Inevitable. “Misunderstood” is by Positive Vibe (feat. Candice Cheek). “Reckless” is from Yankee Blood’s 2015 Honey EP. “We Sing (Oh-Ee-Oh)” is from MANZARDO’s 2015 “MANZARDO” EP. “Out Here Boys” is by Sofa Brown (feat. Evan Blocker), from the 2016 album Two Skies. “Sunday” is by E.T., Iyce & Quiet Entertainer.

February: Hump Day Happy Hour at the Five Spot

All month long throughout February, The Five Spot will be hosting a Friends of the Fringe event hosted by Jeff Blaney. Every Wednesday will feature a different artist on the bill, and each show is only $5. Here’s the line-up: February 3 featuring Renee Wahl, Feb. 10 with Josh Case, Feb. 17 with Bill Davis, and Feb. 24 with Luke Amelang. Each night opens with the featured performer kicking off at 6pm, with Jeff following up for a set of his own at 7pm. Click through to RSVP to the show(s) or for more information.

Tonight on the Fringe Radio Show, host E.T. will be walking through the Nashville Fringe Festival’s 2015 Winter Sampler.

Last month’s installment in the seasonal compilation series features contributions from Charlie Rauh, Frances and the Foundation, NDPNDNT (former group of Fringe Radio Show co-host E.T., featuring B. Stille of Nappy Roots), Rae Hering, Swap Meet Symphony (Al-D, LST, Cole Jonique), Waterfall Wash, and Jeff Blaney, who will be hosting a release party for his new EP, Go Now, Don’t Look Back, Thursday, February 12 at Dan McGuinness (1538 Demonbreun, Nashville, TN 37203).

Tonight on the Fringe Radio Show, host E.T. will be talking with guitarist and singer/songwriter Jeff Blaney. The two will cover a variety of subjects including Blaney’s new recording, which is the first all-acoustic project he’s created.

Blaney will be celebrating the release of that new EP, Go Now, Don’t Look Back, at Dan McGuinness (the Demonbreun location) Thursday, February 12.
